The officials of New Zealand are probing the probability that the country’s initial coronavirus cases in over 3 months had been imported via freight as the nation’s largest re-imposed lockdown starting Wednesday.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern re-imposed stringent restrictions in Auckland swiftly after the discovery of 4 coronavirus positive family members in the city. She also re-imposed social distancing measures across the country.
The health officials are still confused about the source of coronavirus outbreak. As per the officials, they were confident there wasn’t local transmission of this virus in the country for around 102 days.
Ashley Bloomfield, Director General of Health said that they are working extremely hard to solve the mystery on how the four members of this family contracted the infection.
The investigations were narrowing in the possibility of the virus being imported through freight. In a televised press conference, ,Bloomfield said that the officials were conducting surface testing at one Auckland cool shop where a person from this family worked as the virus can survive under refrigerated environments for some time.
Notably, with about 1,500 confirmed and 22 death cases of coronavirus, the exposure of New Zealand remains below several other developed countries.
